We thought it would helpful for parents to have access to a set of instructions for three games incorporating a wide range of sports that will support your efforts to keep your kids active year round!
School Holiday Multi Sports – Kick Baseball
For this game, you will need a soccer ball, AFL ball, rugby league or rugby union ball, as well as a set of rubber, throw down baseball/softball bases. You will also need two teams of approximately five-ten players.
Setting up a baseball diamond using a set of rubber throw down base set, one team are the kickers and the other team are the fielders. One player from the kicking team places a ball near home base. After kicking the stationary ball in the foul free zone (between first and third bases), the kicker’s job is to run around all bases and get to home base before the fielding team returns the ball back to their teammate situated on home base.
The kicker is dismissed if the fielding team returns the ball back to home base before the kicker returns to home or if a fielder on the fielding team cleanly catches the ball on the full kicked by the player from the kicking team.
Once each player from the kicking team has their turn, the fielding team has their turn at kicking. This game can be played over a series of 3-5 innings.
School Holiday Multi Sports – NFL Oz Tag/Touch Footy
For this game, you will need a Vortex, AusKick AFL ball or miniature rugby league or rugby union ball as well as a set of cones/markers for to set up a field and end zone plus a set of Oz Tags. You will also need two teams of approximately five-seven players.
Setting up a touch footy field with clear end zones/in goal territories, the game functions much like a game of Oz/Tag/Touch Footy. The major variation is that to score a try, one player must be standing in the end zone/in goal and is to receive the ball from a teammate. The ball is to be thrown like an NFL pass to that teammate standing in the end zone/in goal area.
Before a ball can be thrown into the end zone/in goal area, each player on that team has to have touched the ball. Balls can be thrown/passed backwards or forwards. Players can run with the ball but if their Oz Tag is ripped off by the opposition, this counts as one touch. The team with the ball has five touches before having to turn the ball over to the opposition.
The game functions most effectively with 5-7 players on the field for each team at one time.
School Holiday Multi Sports – Number Soccer
For this game, you will need a soccer ball of any size and a set of cones/markers for to set up a field and soccer goals. You will also need two teams of approximately five-seven players. Each player is given a number of one to seven.
Setting up a soccer field with clear goals (goal post or different coloured cones), the game functions much like a typical game of soccer. The major variation is the number of players on the field at one time. Acting as a coach, your job is to call out various numbers. For example, if you call out number 1, 2 and 3, this would see players who have been assigned numbers 1,2 and 3 will run on to the field where a ball will be waiting for them. The first team to score a goal wins. A new set of numbers is then called out. Always aim to call out at least one-two numbers to maximise participation. The team of five-seven players who has the most number of victories are the champions.
The game works best when the coach restricts the time spent by these players on the field to approximately two-three minutes. If in this time no goal is scored, neither team receives a point. Then, a new game begins with new numbers being called out by the coach. The team with the most number of points/goals scored wins the game.
